Monday 28th February - Day by day

Today has been a hard day in some ways. I enjoyed meeting a friend this morning and then Anne's mum came to take us out for lunch. I slept OK but was awake from 6am this morning but have felt physically OK today. Within our situation the slightest thing can seem so hard at times. My biggest fears are not having children, leaving Anne and actually doing God's work and being a patriarch for His kingdom. All these seemed to rush over and take over me today and I just wanted to have a day without having to deal with this.

I love reading the Psalms as David bears his heart before the Lord even when he struggles. Within Psalm 13 David says 'How long Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long must you hide your face from me? How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes or I will sleep in death and my enemy will say I have overcome him and my foes rejoice when I fall'. David is honest before the Lord, he feels lost and wants the Lord to speak to him and settle his thoughts.

David though in the rest of the Psalm proclaims that he trusts the Lord and sings His praise. It says 'But I trust in your unfailing love: my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord's praise for He has been good to me. ' David rejoices in the Lord and says I rejoice in your salvation. However hard our situation becomes I know that I have the salvation of the Lord.

Thank you for all your prayers, support and love.

Verse for the day: Psalm 13

Prayer for the day: Pray for the Lord to continue to be our rock and fortress. For us to continue to trust in the Lord and rejoice in His salvation. Pray for wisdom in our treatment options and for me to be physically upheld. Pray for our families that the Lord would minister to them and strengthen them at this difficult time. Pray for sleep and for the brain scan that will take place within the next 2 weeks.

Sunday 28th February - Perseverance

Good evening, sorry that the blog is being done so late but I seem to have had very little time to be able to sit down and do it today. We have been to church twice today and have been out for lunch also. We have also been to meetings after church to pray for works we are doing. We are both physically well and have had a day where we have been encouraged by God's people. I now have twice as much hair on my chin as I do on my head and I am also glad that Birmingham won the Carling Cup too.

Being at church was fantastic as it was a glimpse into what heaven is like and also the word was preached faithfully to us. We have just started a series in Philippians and the first few verses of the book show how we need to persevere with Christ until we meet him again. Paul says 'and this is my prayer that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ'. We really want to abound in the love of God and know that your prayers are aiding in this process. All things on this earth will rot away, there will be a new heaven and a new earth, we will have new bodies and our hope of gaining all this, remains in Christ.

Thank you for all your prayers and support.

Verse for the day: 1 John 4 v 1-10

Prayer for the day: Please pray that we would continue to grow in Christ's love and we would know the strength, peace and love of God. Pray for God's will of which treatment takes place and for its success. Pray for our families that God would draw close to them in this difficult time and would be their rock and fortress. Pray for our witness that we would only live to serve the true and living God.

Saturday 27th February - There is more to life than this

Good evening I want to start by publicly saying thank you to Ali for doing the blogs for the past few days which I know have been an encouragement to many. We are doing well and have had a day of rest and time together. My body is physically keeping well and we have been sleeping well considering the week we have had. We are waiting for the consultant to call us in to sign papers to start the process of going for a clinical trial. This will involve a genetic test taking 7 days to wait for the results and then a brain scan to see if things have stabilised.

Tuesday and Wednesday were hard days processing the information and choices we were given. Throughout the past few days we have really felt people's prayers, which have been answered as the peace and strength of the Lord has truly upheld us. Whenever I try and qualify my faith to people one of the things I say to them is that 'there must be more to life than this'. Within our situation it screams there must be. Well there is! We can all have the hope of heaven, that when this life is gone there is another in which to dwell in. John 5 v24 says 'Very truly I tell you whoever hears my word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life'. We have a a hope and it does not fade or perish.

Verse for the day: Psalm 73 v 23- 28

Prayer for the day: Please pray for the continued peace, strength and ministering of the Lord. Please pray for the the Lord's will in treatment and for its success. Pray for the scan of the brain which will be in around 2 weeks time. Pray for sleep and rest and for wisdom in what to do. Pray for the Lord to be our families strength and for us to be able to support them also.

Friday 25th February - Update

It has been a hard week for Glen, Anne and the family. The good news is that subject to a scan and one or two other things Glen should be able to join one of the clinical trials. We need to be continuing to pray that Glen would be suitable for the trial and that it would prove successful.

Whilst it has been a hard week Glen and Anne are continuing to trust in God. Their confidence is in their redeemer who they know lives and who intercedes on their behalf.

In Mark 14 we see Jesus at his lowest point, he is in the garden of Gethsemane and he knows what is coming. He knows that everyone will abandon him, he knows that he is about to be betrayed, that he will be arrested, mocked, beaten and crucified. And he knows that he must drink the cup of God's anger against sin. That's why he asks God, his Father, if there is any other way, not once but three times, before having prayed he resolves to do his father's will willingly.

It is an astonishing scene which shows us the full consequences of our rebellion against God, but also Jesus great love for his people that he will face God's anger willingly so that we do not have to.

What also strikes you as you read the story is Jesus dependence on his father. By contrast his disciples Peter, James and John the three who have made boasts about standing with him when everyone else fails don't pray and they fail; fall asleep. Our Saviour loves us so much he gave himself for us knowing the full extent of his Father's anger against sin and the full extent of our weakness and failings. It also reminds us of the wonder of access to God we have in prayer, that we can't stand in our own strength but must learn to depend on him.

Prayer: Father God we want to thank you for your great love for us which is shown in your sending your son who so willingly pays the cost for our rebellion against you. Father thank you that because of Jesus we can come to you as your children and bring you our prayers. We lift Glen and Anne to you we pray that they would both continue to depend on you and that you would continue to prove yourself faithful. We pray too for test results which mean Glen can join this clinical trial.

Father God thank you that Glen's future is in your hands. Amen.

Thursday 24th Feb - Update

Glen is waiting on hearing whether he is suitable for one of the clinical trials and whether there is space on that trial for him. It will be at least 2 weeks before whichever treatment is decided is best begins.

We need to be praying for patience as they wait to find out which treatment is best and then as they wait for the treatment to start. The last couple of weeks have been a rollercoaster ride of emotions for all of the family and we need to pray for them to continue to trust in God as they wait results and treatment starting.

Psalm 61
"Hear my cry , O God,
listen to my prayer,
from the ends of the earth I call to you
when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
that is higher than I,
for you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy."

Prayer:
Father God your word reminds us that you are sovereign and you are also unfailing faithful to your word and your purposes. It reminds us of the privilege it is to know you and be known by you, and we come and thank you for Glen's knowledge of you and that you know him as your child. Father we lift Glen, Anne and the rest of the family to you; we ask that you would sustain them as they await yet more results and treatment, Lord when their frustration mounts or they feel drained be their resolve and their comfort we pray. Help them to draw comfort from your love and your plans and purposes for them we pray. Father we continue to ask that as the one who made us, who formed us, who knows our every breath you would graciously heal Glen's body. We ask all this trusting in your will and your way.

Amen

Tuesday 20th February - update

This afternoon Glen and Anne met with Mr Marshall the consultant to discuss possible treatments. There are a number of options open to them, and they have gone home this evening to decide which ones they want to take up. It is possible that Glen could take part in a clinical trial or that he could undergo a course of Chemotherapy. Tomorrow they will have a phone consultation about their decision and the way forward.

They would value our prayers for them in the decision they must make. Lets be praying that God would enable them to trust in him and rest secure in the decision they make. Lets also be praying that tonight they enjoy a good rest.

Proverbs tells us "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight."

Prayer: Father God thank you for the skill and wisdom you have given to those treating Glen, thank you to that there are further possibilities treatment wise. We lift Glen, Anne and the family to you this evening praying that you would help them to trust in you as they make the decision about what treatment to have.

Monday 21 February 2011

Monday 21st February

Tomorrow afternoon Glen and Anne see the consultant to discuss the scan and potential treatments, I will update the blog with news as and when I get it to keep you up to date.

But in the meantime it would be great if you would remember them in your prayers. Uncertainty is hard to live with, we all tend to start crossing bridges, trying to answer the what if questions. It is right and good that we pray for them to rest, not just to sleep though we should pray that for the family, but that they would rest in God.

Rest is one of the Bible's big theme, creation climaxes on day 7 when God rests from his work of creation, that doesn't mean that God got out the deck chair and put his feet up but he rested from his creating. Adam and Eve are made to enjoy the rest of God. But that rest is forfeited when they, just as we do, decided they wanted to rule, to decide right and wrong, for themselves, and as a result of the fall rest became difficult. In a world where work is hard, death exists, suffering is real, and illness experienced by all rest is ruined by sin.

It is what makes Jesus words in Matthew all the more startling "Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." And its against that backdrop that the writer to the Hebrews reminds those he writes to, who are in danger of forgetting, the rest that is theirs in Jesus.

God promises that by faith in Jesus we will enter his rest, a rest which is worth entering, that is coming and yet we taste now, that is still open, that is certain because he promises it, and which is reached by faith.

Prayer: Father God we pray for Glen, Anne and the family. We ask that they would rest in you, that they would turn their anxieties and worries over to you. We ask that they would be able to physically rest this evening and tonight, and that they would know the comfort of tasting now the rest that comes from being in a right relationship with you, a rest dependent not on what we do but on what Jesus has done for us.

Sunday 20 February 2011

Sunday 20th February

We were privileged to share lunch and board games with Glen, Anne and the rest of the family along with other friends today and it was great to see both Glen and Anne looking well. Glen has finally come to his senses and realised beards are cool! Though I think Anne may take some convincing.

They were both in good spirits and it was a fun afternoon with laughter and love. They would both value our continuing prayers for the week ahead especially Tuesday, as would the rest of the family.

Revelation 4 gives us a peak behind the curtains of history into the throne room of God, it shows us God sat on his throne, he reigns and rules and nothing jeopardises his rule. A Uganda bishop put it like this “Satan can roar like a lion but he has no right to shake the throne…” That is the reality that God is unveiling to John and to us.

God sits on his throne and creation worships him and the church worships him because he is sovereign and that is what he is due. This week God remains sovereign, he remains enthroned and history is heading inexorably to the moment when everyone will recognise him and his people will enjoy eternity forever with him. In the meantime we live longing for that rule and reign to be established, praising God for his sovereignty and his unfailing goodness even as we live in a world sick with sin and riven with its consequences. They do not challenge God's rule but remind us that our great and glorious God will one day remove all suffering, he will place his thumb on the cheek of his people and wipe the tears from their eyes, as he throws open the doors of his kingdom to welcome them in. In the meantime we are to live longing and praying for that day to come and God's will to be done.

Prayer: Father God we thank you and praise you for keeping Anne and Glen at this time. We pray that they would know your continuing help and the comfort of your sovereignty and love. Father we bring Tuesday to you and ask that you would remove anxieties and give wisdom to both the family and the doctors and nurses. Thank you for the comfort the knowledge of your sovereignty brings and for the promise our future holds because of your work of grace in our hearts and lives. Amen

Friday 18th Feburary

Glen and Anne are away visiting family this weekend and I'll be keeping the updates coming for the next few days. We need to remember them in our prayers as they await Tuesday and meeting Mr Marshall and as they take time to think, pray and discuss the future with family and friends.

Psalm 73 is a wisdom Psalm, in it the Psalmist looks at a broken world and seems on the point of despair until in the final stanzas he remembers where he is - in the temple - and that God's presence is his joy not circumstance, and his future is secure for all eternity. With this renewed perspective he can conclude that it is good for him to be near to God.

"Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.

Those who are far from you will perish;
you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
But as for me, it is good to be near God.
I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds."
Psalm 73v23-28

Prayer: Father God we pray for Glen and Anne, that they may they have a restful few days, keep them safe as they travel, we pray that you would enable them to lie down and rest safe in the knowledge that they are yours. We pray that they would know you as their refuge and strength as you sustain them in the emotions and decisions they face.

Thursday 17th February - Update

Glen has asked me to write the blog for today. Today was scan results day and they were not what we had all been hoping for. The scans have shown some other tumours which have grown since the last scan.

Glen, Anne and the family are coping and continuing to put their trust in God who is and always will be good and sovereign. Next week they will see the consultant when they will find out more. They would value our prayers love and support as they take time to come to terms with the results and think about what is to come and the decisions they have to make.

Habukkuk is a little read prophet, his prophecy is like a bite sized version of Job, as he wrestles with the injustice of a world sick with sin. His conclusion provides words we need to hear:

"Though the fig tree does not bud
and there be no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the sheepfold
and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Saviour.
The Sovereign LORD is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
he enables me to tread on the heights."

God is not to be judged faithful by circumstance but by what he reveals to us of his character in his word and through his Son, Jesus Christ.

Prayer: Father God we bring our brother Glen and his family to you. We are struck again by the sin sick nature of our world and mourn the affects it has on those we love. Father we ask you to heal Glen's body, to remove the tumours. Whilst recognising that our way is not always your way or even the best way.

Sustain Glen, Anne and the family at this time we pray, may they rejoice that their hope is in you. Make their feet that feel so weak, strong as they walk this path, give them rest, comfort and the reassurance that none of this has surprised you, that they are loved by you as you have shown by giving your son for them and securing their glorious future.

Amen

Wednesday 16th Febraury - Friends

Good evening. An enjoyable day has been had by all and we are well rested, relaxed and refreshed. We enjoyed a slow start to the day and then went to see friends for coffee and cake. We then had lunch and went to Lyme Park which particularly pleased the girls. We then met more friends for tea. We then went to the cinema and watched Gnomeo and Juliet which was excellent. We are now relaxing watching TV ready to go to sleep. We are back at the hospital tomorrow for a general check up after the radiotherapy and to find out when the scan of the brain will take place. Prayer for this would be amazing.

We are both very nervous and unsure of what to expect next week. We completely trust the Lord and are resting under His will but its hard to ignore the desires of your heart. 2 Samuel 22v 2-3 says' The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my saviour - from violent people you save me'. The rock we will lean on is the Lord. I am not sure of what is to come and as humans that scares us but God is sovereign and knows already, in that we rest.

Thank you for all your prayers and support it means so much to know people are praying for our situation.

Verse for the day: 2 Samuel 22

Prayer for the day: Please pray for God to minister to us within our situation and speak through His word. Pray for the hospital appointment tomorrow and for the results of the scan next week. Pray for our sleep tonight and physical recovery of my body. Pray for our families and their ministering from the Lord.

Tuesday 15 February 2011

Tuesday 15th February - Trust in the Lord with all your heart!

What does it mean to trust? According to wikipedia it means to rely on something. Well I know my trust in the Lord has been the strength I have needed to walk this path we are on. Psalm 73 says 'yet I am always with you: you hold me by your right hand. You guide me with you counsel and afterward You will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You. My flesh and heart may fail but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever'. Trust is a funny thing and we all place it in money, stuff, our health and yet they will all fail. God will never fail, He will never leave us nor forsake us and He is the rock upon which we can and we are standing.

The scan went well and quickly but now we have to wait. This we know will be a period in which complete trust and patience in the Lord will be the only thing to keep us. We are feeling physically well just a little tired but we are sleeping well. We have had a good day with friends and enjoyed home made pizza for tea, myself without cheese :( due to diet. I am being forced to watch pride and prejudice as we are planning to go to Lyme park tomorrow and we are taking some time to rest.

Thank you for all your prayers they are truly humbling. 1 John 5 v14-15 says 'this is the confidence we have in approaching God, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of Him.'

Verse for the day: Psalm 73

Prayer for the day: Please continue to pray for the ministering of the Lord to us and we would know the tangible love of the Lord in our midst. Pray for the results of the scan. Pray for our families that the Lord would be their rock and strength and they would be able to support us too. Pray for our continued physical strength and sleep. Pray for our witness and opportunities to share the gospel with people in the midst of our situation.

Monday 14th February - The greatest love ever

Valentines day. A day all about love and yet not. We have had a relaxing start to the day and I needed rest and so have taken it slow today. I am physically OK just needed some rest but I did sleep well last night. We are expecting friends from Northern Ireland and we know this will be a real time of blessing. The letter came through with the time of the scan and its at 1:45 tomorrow. This will be to scan the whole body other than the brain to see if the cancer has progressed. We would value prayer for God's sovereignty and blessing in this.

Someone text me about Genesis 37 this morning and how the Lord was with Joseph even in the midst of his trials. I was also reading Job and how God was with him in the midst of his trials too. Romans 15 v 13 says' May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope'. God is a God who loves his people. The Greek word for the love Christ has for us is Agape. It is unconditional, God loves us even though we mess up and fail. 1 John 4 says 'This is love, NOT that we loved God but that He loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins'. The greatest love ever is that of Christ for us.

Thank you for all your continued prayers. I have been so humbled by how often people are praying for us too.

Verse for the day: Job 38

Prayer for the day: Pray for us to know the love of God every day. Pray for the scan tomorrow and for us having to wait a week for the results. Pray for continued strength for my body and the ability to sleep well each night. For our families to be ministered to by the Lord and for their wait on results too. For wisdom for all the doctors and nurses when they deal with us.

Sunday 13th February - Mum's 50th Birthday

An enjoyable day has been had by all the Heggartys. My mum is 50 today so my family came across to Liverpool last night. We have had a fantastic day, at church first, then at our house playing games. Church was a real blessing and an encouragement to be able to speak to so many people I have not seen for a while. I have then been beaten at every game we played, but it was enjoyable just to spend time with family. We are now resting, spending an evening just relaxing within the house. I did not sleep well last night and so would value prayer for a good sleep tonight.

Within Target (Youth work) this morning we were looking at faith and how if Christ is the most important part of our life this should be seen in our lives. We looked at James 2 v14 which says 'What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if people claim to have faith but have no deeds? Can such faith save them?' v18 and 19 then say 'but someone will say you have faith I have deeds. Show me faith without deeds and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that and shudder.' The demons even realise who God is and yet so many don't. Our lives should show our love of Christ and what He has done for us.

Thank you for all your prayers and support. It means so much and is a real source of strength.

Verse for the day: Luke 8 V24 - 28

Prayer for the day: Pray for us to all realise our need of Christ and for our lives to be lived for Him. Pray for a good nights rest and to be able to sleep well tonight. Continue to pray for the scan next week that the cancer will not have progressed and the results will be a blessing, Pray for our families source of strength and comfort to be the Lord and for them to know Christ's love.

Saturday 12 February 2011

Saturday 12th February - Family time!

What a glorious, sunny day in Liverpool. We are both well physically and mentally and have had an excellent morning. I was awake at 6am this morning so listened to my radio and took this morning slowly. We had breakfast in bed which was nice then went out for brunch with friends. Followed by watching the football and rugby. We have then had a relaxed afternoon preparing for my family to come for a few days. We are having some family time tonight and I am sure match of the day will appear somewhere.

Over the last few months myself and Anne have grown so much with the Lord. God uses our sufferings firstly for His glory but also to work in our lives too. Romans 8 v 28 reminds us of this when it says 'and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose'. God is definitely working good within our situation and we are learning to cling to Him. God's purpose for our lives is greater than we can imagine and we are praying for us to look only to Christ in our situation.

Thank you for your prayers and support it means so much in the midst of our situation.

Verse for the day: Romans 8

Prayer for the day: Pray for us to only look to Christ in our situation. Pray for the scan next week that it would be a blessing from the Lord and we would be strong in waiting for results. Praise the Lord for my continued physical recovery. Pray for our families that God would continue to minister to them and be their source of strength.

Friday 11 February 2011

Friday 11th February - Be encouraged

We have had a good and busy day. The day started early for Anne as she had to deal with fence people. We both then met people for coffee. Then I went to meet someone for lunch at Lark Lane. These were all great and a real encouragement. Anne has then cleaned the house (What a superstar!) and I read a book for the afternoon. We both then went out and did kids work at church with me meeting for a one on one meeting beforehand. I am feeling physically well and do not have many symptoms.

In meeting so many people today to discuss the bible I have read lots that really encouraged me. Mark 12 where Jesus is tempted by Satan and He shows His perfection. 'and He was in the wilderness forty days being tempted by Satan'. 1 Peter v3 and 4 'In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into and inheritance that can never perish, fade or spoil. The inheritance is kept in heaven for you'. What truths and what encouragement and hope we can take from that.

Verse for the day: Romans 9 v 11

Prayer for the day: Pray we will look only to Christ and that we will have no fear of what is to come. Pray for both of our bodies physical strength to be renewed as we sleep tonight. Continue to pray for the scan next week that it would be a blessing from the Lord and the cancer will not have progressed. Please pray for both our families that the Lord would continue to be their portion, shield and strength.

Thursday 10 February 2011

Thursday 10th February - Jesus

Good evening. We have had another really good day and have been blessed by the encouragement of other people. We were able to rest this morning and Anne went out for breakfast too! We then took things a bit slower before going to a funeral at Bridge Chapel this afternoon. This was a real encouragement in 2 ways, first we have an eternal hope and second we were able to speak to people about our situation and they were an encouragement to us. We have then been to friends for the evening (another blessing) and are now home resting.

We were reading Isaiah 9 this morning and were really encouraged by the prediction of Christ's coming 700 years before and how our God is a Mighty God and Wonderful Counsellor. V6 says 'For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given. And the government will be upon His shoulders and He shall be called Wonderful Saviour, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ' and v2 says ' The people walking in darkness have seen a great light, on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.' What an amazing truth! 700 years before Christ came here He is predicted to come and be our saviour and counsellor. His kingdom will never end. Praise the Lord!

Thank you for all your prayers and encouragement.

Verse for the day: Isaiah 9

Prayer for the day: Praise the Lord for Jesus Christ and Him coming to be our saviour by grace. Please pray for the scan next week that it would be a blessing from the Lord and would be an answer to prayer. Pray for my physical health to continue to grow and strengthen each day. Pray for our energy to complete things. Please pray for our families and friends as they walk with us in this difficult situation.

Wednesday 9 February 2011

Wednesday 9th February - Do not be afraid

Good evening. We have had both a restful and enjoyable day. We were able to slowly get up and deal with things that needed doing around the house. We have looked after our friend's child again, going to the park and feeding the ducks and stroking dogs. We have then had tea and enjoyed both a male and female night out with friends. I am feeling much better both physically and mentally. I am much less nauseous - Praise the Lord and have been up to much more.

A friend sent me Exodus 14 today and reminded me the Lord is on our side and He is fighting and with us in all of this. It says 'Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you shall see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you, you need only be still". God loves and fights for His people and we only need to be still and come to Him. Our God is an awesome God, He reigns from heaven above with wisdom, power and love.

I love this song and is such an encouragement every time I hear it : http://http//www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5i2pELpqBg

Verse for the day: Isaiah 41:10

Prayer for the day: Praise the Lord for His character and His sustaining power. Praise the Lord for His salvation and our hope. Continue to pray for the scan next week that God's will would be done and it would be a blessing. Pray for continued physical, mental and spiritual uplifting. Please pray for our families and their spiritual and emotional needs will be met. Pray for Anne and her support of me and for her own support to be good too.

Tuesday 8 February 2011

Tuesday 8th February - Praise the Lord

Good evening. A good day overall today. I have rested and spent most of the day on the sofa due to nausea and feeling generally tired, which I know is normal. Anne has been a superstar and sorted lots and been out for coffee with friends. We have then been to the hospital and received overall positive news. We were worried about 2 lumps I had found but praise the Lord they were not anything. The doctor said he was slightly worried about my shoulder and he has ordered a full body scan for next week to see how the cancer in the lungs and body has progressed or not?

I was reading Psalm 81 today. It starts 'Song for joy to God our strength, shout aloud to the God of Jacob. Begin the music, strike the timbrel. Play the melodious harp and lyre.' Praise the Lord the God Almighty. He is worthy to be praised and not just when things go our way but also when we are suffering. He is mighty to save and we should be humble before him and we have already been healed of our sin through Christ.

Verse for the day: Psalm 81

Prayer for the day: Praise the Lord for all He has been to us in the midst of such suffering. Please pray for both my shoulder to settle down and be nothing and for the scan to be clear. Please pray for my physical recovery and general well being that the mighty hand of God would sustain me. Pray for both our families and their strength and uplifting by the Lord.

Monday 7th February - Heaven

Sorry about yesterday's post it was written in enough time I just forgot to publish it. Today has been a mixed day. We had another slow morning and were able to have breakfast and lunch with Anne's family which was really nice. We then headed back up to Liverpool and have generally sorted the house out. I am feeling tired though and nauseous. I am also worried about the hospital appointment we have tomorrow, as I am about most. I just need rest and to stop for tonight.

Revelation 21v4 says 'He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.' I know whatever happens God has us and He will sustain us. He gives us the promise of heaven and what a place it will be! We will be worshipping the Lord and will be able to live without the burden of the sin of this world. Praise the Lord His promises are true and we will be in eternity.

Verse for the day: Revelation 21 v 4

Prayer for the day: Please pray for physical upholding from the Lord and for my body to recover with rest tonight. Pray the hospital meeting tomorrow goes well and the Lord is in the midst of it. Pray for the overall process and for the removal of the cancer by the Lord's mighty hand. Pray for our families and their upholding and sustaining by the Lord.

Sunday 7th February - Promises

Good evening. We have had a good day once again with family being in another part of the country. We had another lovely breakfast this morning and a good journey up the country. We have enjoyed a nice lunch and especially Liverpool beating Chelsea as the 10 point gap remains. Fernando Torres was useless. I am a little tired and will need a good sleep tonight. Please continue to pray for my physical recovery and the Lord will strengthen me more each passing day.

Psalm 103 v 1-4 says 'Praise the Lord O my soul; all my inner most being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul and forget not all His benefits- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with compassion and love'. There are days when trusting the Lord seems easy and others such as today when fear seems to grip you and you just want the whole process to be over. The reality of the treatment not working and life being final makes you need the Lord so much more. I stand on the promises of God's word. He has healed my sin, and has given us a great promise of heaven. Matthew 24 v 34 says ' Come you who are blessed by my Father, take your inheritance; the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world'. God's promises are never broken and He has promised those who believe in Him heaven. That's what I rest in and makes me able to even complete this process some days.

Thank you for your prayers they mean so much and give strength when we are weak.

Verse for the day: Matthew 25 v34

Prayer for the day: Praise the Lord His promises are never broken. Praise Him for the hope of heaven. Please pray for a peace about the process and for an understanding of God's will for our lives. Please pray for the success of the treatments and for every hospital meeting or scan that we attend. Please pray for family and the Lord ministering to them also.

Saturday 5th February - Party

Good evening. We have had another good day and the Lord is blessing our time away. I went swimming this morning and had a really nice breakfast too. We have then spent the rest of the day with family enjoying a 21st birthday and catching up with family. It has been really nice to relax and enjoy time once again.

God is an awesome God and He really is with us in this. I am sorry this is not a long blog but a man needs his rest. Thank you for your prayers and I know God really is answering them.

Verse for the day: Matthew 16 v 26.

Prayer for the day: Praise the Lord for all He has done. Please pray for the physical recovery of my body. Pray for continued rest and blessing of the Lord. For the Lord to continue to go before and be within every hospital meeting and scan.

Friday 4 February 2011

Friday 4th February - Relaxing.

We have had a really nice day and I have eaten too much food. We had a really nice breakfast after both sleeping well. We then have spent the day walking round Cambridge looking at Kings College and enjoying lunch and the river. We then came back and have had a lovely swim, a meal and watched England win the rugby (with Anne doing her nails). I am feeling well and enjoying the time to rest and we have enjoyed time with one another. My head is less itchy and nausea at a minimal at the moment which is great.

We are so grateful for all that we have been provided by the Lord and all He is to us. We are blessed in so many ways and yet forget these daily. We have food, clothes, a house, each other, loving families and so much the Lord has provided. So many have so little and yet we have so much and forget to praise Him for it. The Lord has been our strength in our situation and He has lifted us up when we needed it and we would not have dealt with this situation without Him. He knows our desire is for me to come through it but the Lord's will is greater for us than we can imagine. Praise Him for being with us.

Thank you for your prayers, support and love. Prayer really is an amazing blessing and so many praying means so much and is a tower of strength. It shows the love and compassion of Christ also.

Verse for the day: Ephesians 1v3 ' Praise be to the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ who was blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ'

Prayer for the day: Praise the Lord for all He has given us and blessed us with. Praise Him for His character and His upholding of me. Please pray for the Lord in his mercy to hear our desires and meet them. Pray for continued strength and physical recovery for my body and I will be ready for any more treatment. For families, friends and others and our witness within our situation.

Thursday 3rd February - Awe of God

Good evening. We have had another good day. We have gone away for a few days and it has been great to relax and spend some time with one another and reflect. We have been swimming and out for lunch and had a Tesco tea too. The place we are staying is really nice and I am continuing to feel strong physically and mentally.

I was just reading the first chapter online of a book recommended to us called 'Crazy Love'. The first chapter is about how God is allowed to become common in our lives and forget to marvel and have awe for the character of God. It gave some facts of creation to make us marvel such as there are 3000 different types of trees within one square mile of the Amazon, God created us all to laugh in different ways, coral will die if the sea temperature changes by 1 or 2 degrees and your heart generates enough pressure to squirt blood over 30 feet. It says in Psalm 19 'The heavens declare the glory of the Lord, the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge'. Creation actively speaks of how awesome, mighty and powerful God is and declare HIS handiwork.

The quote that resonated most with me was one by A.W. Tozer though. He says 'the most portenous fact about any man is not what he at any given time may say or do but what he in his deep heart conceives God to be like'. Our opinion of who God is shapes not just our words, actions and thoughts but our whole lives. We, and I say we as I am just as guilty need to continually remind ourselves of the character of God and what he has done for us to be in awe of the mighty God. We need to see ourselves in the light of God and realise how small we are and how big He is and worship him with humble hearts.

Verse for the day: Psalm 19 v1-2 (The rest of the Psalm is awesome too)

Prayer for the day: For our hearts to worship the Lord humbly and correctly with every fathom of our being. Praise the Lord for the world we live in, the blessings we have and the hope we profess. For continued physical recovery. For God to bless and go before all scans, meetings and results. For our families that God would be their portion, guide and strength at this time too. For The Gallagher's and a couple called the Morley's too. For all of us to have a right attitude to God.

Wednesday 2nd February - Feeling better

Good evening. We have had a much better day today and feel more relaxed about what is to come. God is a great God and He really has sustained us today and answered our prayers from yesterday. We have relaxed and met up with various friends throughout the day which has been a blessing and a real comfort to have their support. I am physically doing well and have not had too many symptoms and have had lots of sleep and rest. We are going away for a few days tomorrow for rest and relaxation. Please pray for this to be a real time of blessing.

I know my worries will not change or differ our situation and I know how awesome a God we have. When we look at the blessings we have and how much God has been with us and will continue to be it is amazing. The hope we have and the fact it is a sure hope is a real comfort to us. I know we are praying for me to come through this disease but we also know the greatest healing has already taken place, of my sin. We are trusting, praying in him and reading of His word and God is with us. Thank you for your prayers as they have been a tower of strength and God is answering them daily.

Verse for the day: Isaiah 3 (Walking with the Lord is a blessing)

Prayer for the day: To praise the Lord for my recovery and the blessings we have received. Praise the Lord for answered prayer. Please pray for a relaxed few days away and for physical recovery. For future appointments, scans and treatments, for their blessing and success and the Lord would go before us. For the Lord to be with our families.

Tuesday 1 February 2011

Tuesday 1st February - Struggles.

What a day. Not the greatest in terms of how we are feeling. It was great in lots of ways the treatment finished yesterday but it means we have to wait and well I am not very patient. We rang the hospital and they said a full body scan will be in 6 weeks while my body settles down and so the Chemotherapy will not start for at least 8 weeks. It means we have nothing really planned and we have to wait 6 weeks just for a scan. Our emotions seem to have been all over the place and well apathy and lack of enthusiasm seems to have come over me. I was listening this afternoon to some Paul Baloche songs and they were a real encouragement.

One of them was called 'Your Name'. Its words are your name is a strong and mighty tower, your name is a shelter like no other, your name let the nations sing it louder, because nothing has the power to save like your name. God is our shelter and our tower and He has us. He is an awesome God and the future is in His hands. He has the power to save and one day every one will realise who He is and will bow before him.

Thank you for your prayers.

Verse for the day: Isaiah 2 (We need the Lord)

Prayer for the day: Pray for the strength and ministering of the Lord. Please pray for patience in waiting for results and for scans. For physical renewing each day and rest for my body. For the continued working of my body to fight the cancer and for God to have his mighty hand over us. For our witness and God would continue to be glorified and number 1 priority. Please pray for our families.
